CBD – What, Where, How, How Much?

The questions you need to ask and the answers you need to hear

CBD has seen an explosion in growth over the past year. Initially dating back to the 1940s, CBD has now grown in popularity following increasing legalization in the world.

So you have seen CBD oil. It appears on your Instagram and Facebook feed. It’s on the shelves in the pharmacies and wellness shops and your friends can’t stop talking about it at your weekly coffee dates. Is CBD for you, is it something that you should consider using? Do we suggest you look at the following points before you decide on purchasing any CBD products?

Where Does Your CBD Come From?

Puresport solely uses hemp grown in the United States. Our source farms are located in Colorado, Oregon, Nevada and Wisconsin. Our hemp plants are grown in an open soil area and are 100% organic and pesticide-free. Our Extraction occurs in Colorado using ethanol extraction. Our Laboratory is a GMP Certified Facility (Certified in 21 CFR Part 111), it has been evaluated by State Environmental Health and the Lab has been audited by SGS earning an ISO 9001:2015 certification.

Certificate Of Analysis

As we focus on providing a premium product that contains no THC, we send our product to a third-party laboratory to do further analysis of our CBD oil. ADACT PTY LTD does our additional third-party testing to ensure that there is no THC in our products.

THC, you ask? THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive compound of the hemp and marijuana plant i.e it’s the one that makes you “high”. THC is also illegal for use in professional sport hence the reason we go the extra mile to ensure that you have peace of mind when you use Puresport CBD oil. Our certificates of analysis are available on our website here and here.

Is CBD Really Worth The Price?

As mentioned before, the CBD market has exploded across the world and there are copious amounts of products available on the market. As such you have many options, some of them cheaper and some of them a bit more on the expensive side. At Puresport we believe that Quality beats Quantity. A cheaper product may just be as such, a cheap product – possibly diluted, not tested, unsafe and the list goes on. We believe in giving you a product that is of premium quality and tested, hence a little bit more expensive than the average product.

1000mg, 2000mg, 500mg, 300mg…

If you are reading this article then you will definitely have searched online for different CBD products. You would have noticed that there are different products with different quantities of CBD oil. So 1000mg vs 2000mg vs any other formulation, what does this even mean? The question to ask is, what is the concentration of the product. The average CBD supplier supplies a CBD oil that comes in a 30ml container. To work out the concentration you divide the milligrams by the amount of liquid i.e 1000mg/10ml or 2000mg/10ml.

So then you have the next question, how many millilitres in a drop of CBD oil? Our CBD oils come with a dropper and this is where things might get tricky, but in short: There are approximately 20 drops in 1 mil and thus 1 drop = 5mg (1000mg bottle) and 1 drop = 10mg (2000mg bottle). Our CBD oil is more concentrated i.e mg/ml and you would thus require to use fewer drops to have the same effect. If you buy a solution that is for ex. 1000mg per 30millilter, the concentration would be less and thus would require more drops to have the same effect.

Some suppliers have a spray option. The millilitres delivered per spray would be dependant on the size of the bottle and its tubing and delivery configuration which is something that would be brand-specific.

Broad Spectrum Vs Full Spectrum Vs CBD Isolate

There is certainly a lot of debate surrounding the terminology in the CBD industry. One of the biggest debates is that surrounding full-spectrum, broad-spectrum and CBD isolate. First of all, it is important to note that there is no official definition, so how companies choose to define them may vary.

So to start, what is the spectrum? It is important to understand that there are different cannabinoids. Each of them behaves differently and interact differently with our endocannabinoid system. The full range of 113+ cannabinoids is what we call the cannabinoid spectrum.

We define the full spectrum as unrefined hemp extract or crude oil. The oil contains everything extracted from the hemp plant. This includes many cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and fatty acids, but most importantly, it also contains THC. Many believe that all these compounds together will have a more beneficial effect, but at Puresport we provide a THC-free product.

Broad-spectrum CBD oil has been extracted from the whole plant but has then undergone purification and filtration. THC gets removed completely and our extensive testing proves this. Because broad-spectrum CBD comes from the entire hemp plant, you get the broad spectrum of the different cannabinoids and thus have more interaction with the body’s endocannabinoid system. Broad-spectrum does give you a natural, hempy flavour and odour to the oil which may put off some users. The extraction process is more complicated and hence you would be paying a premium price for the refined CBD distillate.

CBD Isolate is the purest form of CBD. All other plant compounds and cannabinoids have been removed completely. It does have its benefits, but it does not deliver the enhanced benefits of the entire hemp plant. It is tasteless and odourless.

All in all, as a potential CBD customer, you literally have the world at your feet and an abundance of options. We hope that this piece has been informative and that it would help any individual with making a decision.
